They will be up until the end of February for FREE advertising. Authors who sell books don’t just write books, they also get their name out there by being proactive. Let the marketing machine roll.

We won’t be taking book cover reservations for March until February 5th. First come, first serve.

Don’t Forget To Renew Your Ad:)

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

That’s right. It’s about that time where ads will begin to expire. So keep a lookout for the “Your ad is about to expire” email. If it doesn’t arrive in your inbox then please check your spam box and adjust your spam detector so those important BookBarista emails don’t go there, please.

Renewing your ad is painless and free. Check out the 2 steps:

1.) Click on the link within your “renewal ad” email when it arrives. You will be taken to your original ad. Now in the upper right hand corner click on the “Renew Ad” option. Your ad will appear in a white box.

2.) Click on the “Renew Ad” button at the bottom of the page in the blue rectangle. Now your ad has been renewed.

The instructions can be found at the bottom of the page, on the BookBarista site, HERE.

Thanks for being a part of BookBarista!

Copyright Expiration And Fair Use Explained

Friday, January 28th, 2011

I’ve seen plenty of old books out there being sold by multiple sources – sources that have breathed new life into older books. I’ve been interested in doing this myself. But I’ve wondered about copyright laws and how long a copyright may apply to a written work until it is available to be utilized by the public. I found a great article that answers all this here. If you want to sell a cookbook (any book for that matter) that was popular way back you should look into the copyright status.

In no way do I endorse copying or pirating someone’s work but if the copyright has expired then it’s pretty much up for grabs. If you find a good book with an expired copyright you can dress it up in your own cover and sell it. Kinda’ cool. If you did enough of these you could have your own mini-publishing house:)

Anyways, check out the article link and see what you think. This could be lucrative if done right. But as some of you know, creating books, especially writing books, is a task that isn’t for the faint of heart. Creating a quality book takes discipline, drive, and unwavering desire. So go for it if you’ve got that fire in your belly. But don’t if you only want to do a half-ass job. Who wants a book with a cover that isn’t related to the topic or only half the book is included in the interior?

Good luck!

New Locations To Post To

Monday, January 24th, 2011

The locations to post to (Personal Website and eBookstore) have been deleted. We now have the following locations to post to -

Online
Bookstore
Other

Locations defined:

All Locations/Items – This is the overall LOCATION covering everything. Ads can’t be posted to this LOCATION.

Online – This is for posters who have their book/s and/or book related items posted at an eBookstore such as; Amazon, Apple, Diesel, Kobo, Smashwords, Sony, or another eBookstore. Also if you have a personal website or have items at sites such as eBay then your ad goes under this category as well. You must post the link of your book/s and/or book related items at the specific eBookstore into your ad when posting to this LOCATION.

Bookstore – This is for posters who have their book/s and/or book related items for sale at a physical bookstore such as; a local, corporate store, an independent bookstore, or a used bookstore. You must post a link or a physical address of the bookstore into your ad when posting to this LOCATION.

Other – This is for posters who have their book/s and/or book related items located at a building (ie warehouse or a residence) not covered under BookBarista’s venues. You must post a link, physical address, or cross street into your ad when posting to this LOCATION. NEVER POST YOUR RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS! IT IS ADVISED TO ALWAYS MEET IN A PUBLIC PLACE WHEN MEETING A POTENTIAL BUYER OR SELLER!

We eliminated the Personal Website and eBookstore locations for ease of use and to alleviate confusion between the two. Online is more logical and one less location to wonder about when posting.

Hope this helps and makes the site easier to use

All the ads have been moved to the appropriate locations. So no worries. You don’t need to do anything.

Thanks for your patronage!

Posting Issue – Solved

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

Last night it was discovered that when a poster copies and pastes his or her information into an ad the information will come up like this –

%*!%*$#@^%*!!$#@^%*!$#$#@^%*!@^$#@^%*!%*$#@^%*!!

But if a poster just types in information then it will be fine. The problem is ease of use. Many posters don’t have time to type in their book descriptions, bios, etc.. So we are currently looking into why this sudden change in our system and working on it. We will inform you of the results and get this fixed asap. So please stay tuned.

UPDATE: The posting debacle has been solved:)
